12 January 2014: The Big O, Oscar Clarke, shook the rafters with a superb display of dominance as he soloed the last 6 miles of a 90 mile day and scored his third lifetime WBL win on the Ken Bike Law-Classic City Bread Greensboro Classic. The Big O’s win came at the tail end of what had been a brutal beat-down with a Big Belgian Hammer. Several percipient folks wondered why the Big O was carrying a sledgehammer strapped to his back during the ride. When asked the reason, the Big O said simply, "Jest in case." But now we know that the Big O and his Hincapie cohorts conspired to decimate the pack by crushing their hopes, their dreams, and all their aspirations as they ripped out the 4.5 hour ride at an average clip of 21 miles-per-hour. It would have worked too except the Zealots actually enjoy extended periods of pain so we'll be back for more. In the WBL, that’s just how we roll.
In the fight for the Creature Comfort Overall Leader’s Jersey, the top spot on the dunghill changed hands again for the fifth time this season (T Brown > C England > M Patton > F Lydick > Little Z). Fletcher Paperweight Lydick started the day in the black fleece, but by day’s end, Mary Little Z Zider has snatched it from his back as she continued with her relentless pursuit of the lead. Little Z will now start this week’s ride with a bullseye on her back, but there is a juggernaut at the top, and the battle for Supreme Leader of the Cycling Universe is wide open. Other contenders vying for the throne and well within striking distance are not only the Big O and Paperwieght, but also Jason the Scorcher Bewley, Damien Show Stopper Dunn, Morgan Soul Stomper Patton, Frank the Cuban Missile Travieso and Scott the M Train Morris. The pot has gone from a slow simmer to a bubbling boil. Grab your grippers with both hands because mahem and destruction have appeared on the horizon and are headed this way. And the wind begins to howl...or is that just someone in a spot of bother?
